Troubleshooting your POSaBIT WordPress menu
Almost every WordPress menu problem comes from one of four settings. Check these first. They fix most issues in under five minutes.
Quick check
- ☐ WordPress → Settings → POSaBIT Menu → Server Host is Production App.
- ☐ The E-commerce URL in WordPress is exactly the same as the Ecommerce URL in the POSaBIT portal: same spelling, https://, no slash at the end.
- ☐ In the POSaBIT portal, the Ecommerce URL is your own website address, not ecomm-app.posabit.com.
- ☐ The menu is Published in the POSaBIT portal (not only Preview), and Active.
After changing a setting, wait 5 minutes, clear your site's cache, and reload in a private/incognito window. A change to the Ecommerce URL can take up to 30 minutes to appear.
Find your symptom
What you see | Most likely cause | How to fix |
Menu spins or loads forever. The ecomm-app.posabit.com link works fine. | Server Host is not Production App | WordPress → Settings → POSaBIT Menu → set Server Host to Production App → Save Changes |
Page is blank, or shows "Something Went Wrong" | E-commerce URL in WordPress doesn't match the portal, or the menu isn't published | Copy the Ecommerce URL from the portal and paste it into WordPress. Then Publish the menu in the portal. |
Menu worked before, then stopped after a URL or page change | The page slug, the WordPress setting and the portal no longer match (e.g. auburn-online vs auburn-online-menu) | Make all three identical. Changing a page slug in WordPress means updating the portal too. |
Clicking a product works, but refreshing a product page gives a 404 | Base Name doesn't match your main menu page | Set Base Name to a slash plus the menu page's slug (e.g. /menu), save, then go to Settings → Permalinks and click Save Changes |
Works when you're logged in to WordPress, not for shoppers; or portal changes don't show up | Your site, plugin or Cloudflare cache is serving an old copy | Purge your caching plugin (WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, LiteSpeed, etc.) and Cloudflare. Exclude the menu pages from JavaScript caching, minification and delay. |
One store loads, another doesn't | That store's page slug or location= value doesn't match its Ecommerce URL, or it's not published | Check the store's row: Ecommerce URL ends in /bellevue, page slug bellevue, shortcode location="bellevue" |
Stores on separate subdomains (e.g. seattle.yoursite.com) | Each subdomain is its own WordPress install and needs its own plugin settings | Repeat Steps 2–4 of setup on each subdomain's WordPress |
Menu is squeezed into a narrow column | Theme content width | Set the page Template to Full Width, or raise max-width in the <style> block |
Your site logo or header disappears on the menu page, or the layout looks broken | Theme or page builder CSS (often Elementor) conflicting with the menu | Contact POSaBIT support with your page link and theme name. POSaBIT's own logo is intentionally hidden on WordPress. |
"No Products" | No products match the menu's categories, or no stock is visible online | Check the menu's categories and that inventory rooms have Visible to Online Menus (Ecommerce) turned on. The same menu on ecomm-app.posabit.com will be empty too. |
"Store Closed" or "This store is not currently accepting online orders" | Outside store hours | Check Default Open Time and Default Close Time in POSaBIT Menu Settings |
Shop buttons on your site go to ecomm-app.posabit.com or a 404 page | Old links in your site navigation | Update your WordPress menus and buttons to the new menu page address |
Common questions
- Can one plugin install show several stores?
- Yes, if all stores are under one POSaBIT merchant. See Step 5 of the setup article.
- Do I need an API key, integration or developer account from POSaBIT?
- No. The plugin connects using your menu address only.
- Can I put the menu on Squarespace, Wix, Shopify or in an iframe?
- No. WordPress is the only supported way to embed the menu. On other platforms, link to your POSaBIT-hosted menu.
- Can I preview the menu on WordPress before publishing?
- No. Use Preview in the portal, which opens the POSaBIT-hosted version.
- We're moving from a staging site to the live site. What changes?
- The menu address in three places: Wordpress URL and Ecommerce URL in the portal, and E-commerce URL in WordPress. Then Publish again.
- Can I change colors and fonts?
- Menu colors are set in the portal menu settings. Anything else can be styled with CSS between the <style> tags on the menu page.
